Car Ferry Connecting Pusan and Vladivostok Harbor

A car ferry connecting Pusan and Vladivostok Harbor will begin operations in 1998. The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MOMAF) decided to run car ferries instead of cruisers which have halted their operations temporarily due to the IMF bailout. Hanru Lines plans to run a 7,000 ton car ferry once a week with 100 containers.
The cruisers between Pusan and Vladivostok Harbor started to operate for the first time in July 1996 but stopped operations in March 1998 because the number of Russian small-scale merchant decreased following IMF. MOMAF has asked the Russian government to allow car ferries. It predicted that the car ferry will promote visits by Russian merchants to Korea.
