The 3rd Asian Press Forum Opens

The third Asian Press Forum, an annual event organized by JoongAng Ilbo opens on September 14 at Hotel Shilla, Seoul, Korea. The theme of the Forum, 'Media Role on current Asian Economic Crisis', is a most urgent subject among Asian countires and their journalists.
In the Forum, Hubert Neiss, Director of Asia and Pacific Department of the International Monetary Fund(IMF), and Lee Kyu Sung, Minister of Finance and Economy, made keynote addresses for the opening ceremony and 16 journalists from the 15 Asian countries are scheduled to discuss the current Asian economic crisis.
Dr.S.H.Hong, Publisher/President and CEO of JoongAng Ilbo welcomed the participants by saying, 'This Forum will play a major part in finding ways to deal with challenges we all face.'
In a keynote address, Mr. Neiss urged the Korean government to make every effort to creat a strong financial system and an efficient cooperate sector. He continued, 'Fiscal Policy is made more expansionary to support domestic demand and to finance social program which are urgently needed to mitigate the impact of crisis.'
Forum participants will visit Posco, which is one of the sponsors of the event and the largest steel producing company in Korea on September 15 and make a courtesy call on President Kim Dae Jung on September 16 to exchange opinions on the Asian economic crisis.
