Petrochemistry Consortium Seeks 2 Billion Dollars in Foreign Capital

Sept 14,1998
Samsung and Hyundai Petrochemistry Co's which have already announced a merger to create a consortium are trying to induce the investment of Japanese capital equivalent to 2 billion dollars.
A source familiar with the matter said on September 14, 'The two companies are looking for investment from the Japan Export-Import Bank.'
But only some among 2 billion dollars will be invested by cash in the form of equity participation and most will be used for changing the two companies' debts into foreign debts.
A source from Hyundai said, ' One of the strong investment candidates is Mitsui Chemical Co which is a technology provider for Samsung.'
