Samsung Electronics" Super-fast 16M DDR SGRAMs available

Samsung Electronics Co. now has commercial samples available for the 16M Double Data Rate Synchronous Graphics Random Access Memory (DDR SGRAM) chip, which is receiving attention as a next-generation, super-fast graphics memory device, the company announced on September 16.
The samples are being shipped to makers of dedicated graphics controllers.
According to the company, this product supports graphic images at up to 286Mbps, twice the speed of the regular 16M SGRAM.
The next-generation graphics memory device can create a fully working environment for computerized 3D graphics, the company explained.
Samsung Electronics estimated that the world market for 16M DDR SGRAM is just forming in 1998 but it is forecasted to be worth 100 million dollars in 1999 and jump to 500 million dollars in 2000. After 2000, the DDR SGRAM is expected to completely replace the regular version chip and demand for the product will soar to at least one billion dollars a year.
