SKI 2053R May be the 1st New Medicine in Korea

The number of new drugs under clinical testing has reached 308 since 1992. According to the Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) on September 17, 152 medicines have already been approved and 156 medicines are still undergoing testing.
Dong Ah topped the list with 32 drugs, followed by Korea Jansen (23), SK (19), Cheil-Jedang (15), Chongkeundang (15), LG Chemicals (15), and Handok (11). Among them, the anti-cancer drug 'SKI 2053R' is predicted to be the first medicine developed by a Korean company. Anti-cancer drugs topped the list with 36, followed by anti-bacteria (31), anti-ulcer (18), and medicines for circulatory organs (16). A source at KFDA said, 'When we introduce new drugs from foreign countries, 159 kinds of clinical tests have to be performed.'
