Ginseng Beneficial in Preventing Cancer

Another study documenting Korean Ginseng's effectiveness in preventing cancer will be published.
Dr. Yoon Taek Gu of the Korea Atomic Energy Hospital, in a thesis entitled 'Cancer Preventing Effect of Korean Insam(Ginseng)', which will be submitted to the Seventh International Ginseng Symposium at Lotte World Hotel, Seoul, September 23 to 25, stated that 'People who took Ginseng regularly have remarkably lower ratio of getting cancer than people who did not.'
Until now, the cancer preventing effect of Ginseng has been verified many times through animal experiments, but Dr. Yoon's research was the first ever epidemiological survey which was carried out with human beings. Dr. Yoon made a ten year survey to verify the cancer preventing effects of Ginseng among 4,553 residents who were over 40 years and lived on Kangwha Island from 1987 to 1997.
According to the result of this research, that while the cancerating ratio among residents who did not take Ginseng is 1.0, that of residents who took Ginseng is less than 0.5 on an average, especially in cases of stomach cancer 0.38, and lung cancer 0.29.
Dr. Yoon said, 'It is necessary to continue a world wide joint research to document the cancer preventing effects of Ginseng more clearly.'
