No Exceptions in Corruption Clean up

President Kim Dae Jung, once again, strongly emphasized his vow to remove all traditional corruption from the political system.
Kim stressed this while visiting Kangwon province on September 18 saying 'There is no democracy or economic development where there is corruption. The government strongly resolves to keep rooting out all the decomposition in society and I myself will try to be a model case.'
He however added, 'Of course I am concerned that the current investigation's length and scope, should not be prolonged.'
Replying to the question that the economic situation could worsen owing to the recent distraction and hostility caused by the investigation movement, the president said, 'Detection is solely for democracy and a market economy and an essential condition to build Korea into a superpower in the 21st century. In this kind of rotten soil a worldwide conglomerate cannot appear.'
He stressed 'I would not be a responsible president if I did not order an investigation to target corruption. When I was oppressed as the first opposition party leader, I did not receive any dubious funding, and if I did, how could I survive and be elected president now?'
Kim concluded ' My sunshine policy is not an appeasing one but a measure for peace and deterrence with North Korea.'
