FKTU Warns of "Nation Wide Resistance Movement"

The Federation of Korean Trade Unions (FKTU) warned that they will begin a 'nation wide restistance movement' against the present administration unless the government cancels the layoff plans in the banking sector. In regards to this, FKTU said, 'If the government does not make reasonable proposals, we will withdraw from the Tripartite Committee (TC) at once and will reconsider the coalition policy with this administration.'
The Korean Federation of Bank and Financial Labor Unions (KFBU) confirmed its strike plan scheduled for October 29. KFBU presented the govenrment requirements that would avert the strike. The requirements are; to cancel the mass lay-off plan, an apology from the bank chairman for his decision to call in the police, and to hold discussions about restructuring the financial sector.
FKTU and KFBU said, 'The government is abusing the layoff plan. If the plan is activated, the ruin will be inevitable. The government is responsible for all of this.'
