Luxury Items" Imports Decreased by More than Half

Luxury items' imports decreased by more than half
after Korea received the IMF's bail-out late last year.
According to the Customs Administration Office on September 23, the imports of tobacco were no more than 46.2 million dollars from January to August, a 77.5% decrease from the 205 million dollars worth imported last year.
The imports of beer decreased by 85.8% from 3.33 million dollars to 475,000 dollars.
The imports of whisky decreased by 48.5% from 130 million dollars to 67 million dollars.
Cognac and wine decreased by 85.4% and 76.5% respectively.
Cosmetics imports suffered a sharp 62.2% decrease from 216 million dollars to 81.7 million dollars and health food fell 63% from 55 million dollars to 20 million dollars. Whereas coffee imports decreased by 12.6% from 126 million dollars to 111 million dollars.
