Revised Law for Korean Foreign Nationals

The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) decided to issue 'resident report cards' to Korean nationals who have foreign nationalities but stay for long periods in Korea. However MOJ withdrew from the government's earlier proposal which approved foreign nationals for employment as civil servants except for diplomats, officers in the defense sector and investigation affairs.
MOJ also revealed that it planned to notify the legislation beforehand on September 29 and begin enforcing the law from July 1999. According to the revised law, nationals who want to stay longer than 90 days will have the same basic rights to those possessed by ordinary Koreans when they receive the 'Nationals abroad visa (F-4)'. However MOJ will not issue visas to unskilled workers. A source at MOJ said, 'We revised the law in consideration of the complaints we received from foreign countries.'
