Utility Rather than Justice

The current International Monetary Fund(IMF) bailout brought various changes to Korean society.
In short, it is utility rather than justice.
For instance, regarding the term for the Japanese emperor, most people polled answered 'Japanese king', the one which the general public and press have traditionally used, was reasonable, however, 'emperor' might be also used since president Kim Dae Jung decided to visit Japan. 60.4% answered that the emperor designation was appropriate for diplomatic relations while 46.4% said 'king' was a sufficient title for the Japanese head of state.
In terms of the September 25 fisheries agreement between the two countries, only 37.8% responded 'satisfied' as a more negative feeling prevailed with 40.1% reponded 'dissatisfied' to the pact.
These poll results were from a JoongAng Ilbo survey conducted on September 26 which polled 1,200 people over the age of 20.
When asked, 'What Koreans should do with Japanese relations in the 21st century', 48.9% answered 'improve relations' while 31.8% stated that, 'aknowledgement of the past tragedy is equally important'.
46.5% of Koreans asked the president to conclude the unhappy past with Japanese assistance(46.4%)as well.
