Daewoo Motors Launches Sales in the US

Trailing both Hyundai and Kia Motors, Daewoo Motors finally started exporting cars to the United States for the first time.
Daewoo on September 29 held a news conference in New York's Astoria Hotel that included group chairman Kim Woo Jung and 300 group members. They announced that they would go for the world's biggest market.
Daewoo showed off their most successful models such as the Leganza, Nubira, and Lanos, and plans to sell 30,000 cars in the first year and 100,000 cars every year after.
Daewoo has some experience in the American market when they brought out the 'Le Man Pontiac' in partnership with General Motors in 1992, but this is their first time exporting their own brand name.
Chairman Kim in New York commented, 'This is the first step for Daewoo Motors, which was purely born in Korea, to be evaluated by the world's best consumers directly. We are going to be successful in American competition using our unique stores and marketing strategy.'
The group also has plans to advance into the Canadian market in 1999.
