The construction of a radioactive waste disposal system by the Korean government will be attemped again.
According to the Ministry of Commerce,Industry and Energy on September 30, 'A adioactive waste management policy' has been confirmed which will be completed by 2016 for safe and effective waste management.'
Nuclear material stored in a reserve system is ecpected to be full by the end of 2006 therefore the government will build additional space to handle those substances.
However these measures are not related to the 'non-nuclear proliferation treaty in the Korean Penninsula' which the government signed in 1991.
The proposed sight might be Anmyun and Goolup Island. In 1988 the initial plan to build the system was put off owing to residents' demonstrations.
