US to Maintain 37,000 Soldiers Until 2000

The United States decided to maintain 37,000 strong army in Korea until 2000 underlining its 'win-win' strategy in the Korean Penninsula and the Middle East.
The U.S. reported this decision to the Korean government and will officially announce the 'East Asian Strategy Report' in December.
The policy stresses the importance of the Korean Peninsula and Far East area both militarily and geo-politically for the U.S. Currently they have 100,000 personnel in this region.
It also emphasized thatthe relationship between the U.S. and Japan is the most significant for East Asian security and recommended Japan's stronger role in East Asian security.
