Hurricane Lashes Southern Part Leaving Damage in its Wake

Hurricane 'Yanni' attacked Korea's southern part leaving 52 persons dead or missing.
The typhoon gripped Cheju Island and Southern areas with a 600 mm torrential downpour on September 30. Extensive damage to crops, especially rice, and roads was recorded. At least 240,000 hectares of farmland were seriously damaged due to the rainfall.
Pohang, in particular, recorded 612 mm of heavy rain in a day and 17 people are presumed dead or missing.
The Central Disaster Countermeasure Committee will mobilize volunteers to mitigate the damage done by the rain from October 1 to 3 before the Chusok holidays while supporting an aid fund for sufferers.
