Income per Capita Below 1991 Level

The national income per capita is estimated to be back to the level of eight years ago, falling to less than U.S. 6,500 dollars due to the current economic recession and the fall in the value of the won this year.
According to a related economic research institute, the national income per capita would be no more than 6,462 dollars this year, with an IMF forecasted growth rate of minus 7%, a price hike rate of plus 8.5%, an annual average exchange rate of 1,400 won per U.S. dollar and a population growth rate expected to be 0.89%.
The national income per capita last year was 9,511 dollars.
The estimated level of income of 6,462 dollars this year is more than 1990's 5,833 dollars, but less than the recorded 6,745 dollars in 1991.
Furthermore, next year's national income per capita is estimated to fall to 6,155 dollars, 300 dollars lower than that of this year, with growth rates and price hikes predicted to be minus 1% and plus 4.3% respectively.
