Big Chaebols Trying to Induce Foreign Companies" Equity Participation

As the five biggest chaebols' restructuring proceeds, they are raising the water mark for inducing foreign companies' equity participation.
Hyundai Electronic and LG Semiconductor which will merge to set up a new company are planning to attract foreign capitals equivalent to 1.5~2 billion dollars. Son Byung Doo, vice president of the Federation of Korean Industries, said, ' Both companies plan to induce up to 50% of the total equities.'
Now, industry sources are saying that IBM, Compaq, Hewlet Packard and Intel are interested in the equity participation.
Boeing, Rockheed and Aerospatiale of France hinted at their intentions of equity participation in airplane production.
In the case of train manufacturing, Giemens of Germany and Alstom of France are now interested and Chu Ho Sok, president of Daewoo Heavy Industries, recently met with the affiliates from the two companies, sources are saying.
