Korea-U.S. Automobile Talks at Final Stage

The automobile negotiations between Korea and the United States are going into the final stage before the final signing in Washington DC.
A source from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade said on October 19, 'In the event the current negotiations on vehicles are broken off, and if the U.S. practices retaliatory measures, we will file a suit and bring it to the World Trade Organization table.' He continued, 'Both sides agreed to open the Korean automobile market, but we cannot accept all of the U.S' requests due to the reality of the car market. Aside from tariffs and vehicle tax problems, all other issues including regulations governing car loans are ready to be signed.'
The Ministry also confirmed that if the U.S. imposes additional tariffs, Korean cars will not be exported to the American market, so they are trying their best to finish the deal as early as possible.
The deadline for the meetings is the 20th and the Ministry will announce the final results on the same day.
