Korean Media Summit a Great Success

The 'Korean Media Summit', a meeting between senior executives and editors of JoongAng Ilbo and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in Korea(EUCCK), was held on October 20 at the V.I.P Hall, Youngbinkwan, of Hotel Shilla.
This inaugral event was held to promote a better understanding of the current Korean economic situation, especially since the International Monetary Fund(IMF) bailout occurred last November. More than 100 participants, including European business members, asked questions regarding Korean journalist's and media problems and listened to possible solutions for the struggling economy's future.
The meeting, in which all speeches and question and answer sessions were simultaneously interpreted in English and Korean, was sponsored by the Federation of Korean Industries, Korea International Trade Association, and Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Dr. Hong Seok Hyun, President, Publisher, and CEO of JoongAng Ilbo made the welcoming address. He stated, 'According to the most recent survey by the Korean Federation of Advertising Associations, the readership percentage of JoongAng Ilbo stands at 15.6%; whereas our main competitors only comprise 14.8% and 14.2% respectively. We, at JoongAng Ilbo, will continue our efforts to be the most widely read paper in Korea as well as maintain the highest standards of journalistic excellence.'
JoongAng Ilbo will hold additional media conferences with the United States Chamber of Commerce in Korea and foreign business groups related with the Japan Club in Seoul.
