Presidential Plane Switches to Asiana

The presidential plane has been changed from Korean Air to Asiana Airlines. President Kim as well as his predecessors had used Korean Air as the official presidential jet. But, a plane from Asiana Airlines will be mobilized for the president's visit to China scheduled for November.
For his visit to Japan, the President flew on a Boeing 737 but the presidential aides flew on an Asiana plane. Chung Wa Dae (The Blue House) revealed that the change came about as a result of a public tender. A source at Cung Wa Dae said, 'The main reason is Korean Air's recent series of accidents. Chung Wa Dae cannot maintain using Korean Air planes as presidential jets, because they received severe penalties from the government due to the recent string of accidents.' The new presidential jet is a Boeing 767 with a 230 to 260 seat capacity.
