Semiconductor Industry Faces a New Era
Worldwide semiconductor businesses are entering a new era. Samsung, the leader in memory semiconductors, and second-ranked Micron of the U.S., are increasing their investments aggressively to be or remain the market leader.Whereas, memory semiconductor companies in Japan, the European Union and Taiwan are downsizing their production.
Experts in the industry are forecasting that within two years, just four such companies like Samsung Electronics, a Hyundai- LG merged company, NEC of Japan and Micron will survive in the world market.
The price of memory semiconductors had collapsed from 7 dollars for 16 MD RAM and 66 dollars for 64 MD RAM in the first half of last year to 2 and 8 dollars respectively in the former half this year. 64 MD RAM recently are selling for 10 dollars.
