Corruption in School Purchases

Many school employees were corrupt in the purchasing of tools and materials for education. They bought more material than necessary and hoarded them secretly in 144 schools in Seoul. So, 308 school employees including 14 principals have received punishment.
Seoul Metropolitan City Education Administration revealed on October 26 that 144 of 749 schools were involved in the corruption as a result of an audit. The Seoul district prosecutor's office is also investigating further allegations or misappropriation of school funds in other schools.
Fourteen schools bought 249 more computers than needed and secretly sold them to other private companies, making use of the fact that prices of computers for educational use are 40% cheaper than normal retail prices. In 33 schools, eight employees were issued a warning because they bought computers and software including operating systems for non-educational purposes. Additionally, 45 schools bought cheaper computer monitors than they reported.
