U.S. Visas Sharply Decreased

The number of U.S. visas issued this year has fallen dramatically to just half of last year's level according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on October 29.
The Ministry received the statistics from the U.S. embassy and reported them during National Audit meetings.
The number of visas from October 1997 to September 1998 reached 340,000 cases which was far less than the 570,000 cases of 1997 fiscal year.
Tour and business visas accounted for only 300,000, 58% of last year's, while visas for study purposes were 24,000, 60% of 1997's total.
