President Orders Reinvestigation into Tax Collection

President Kim Dae Jung on November 3 emphasized, 'The truth on the 'Panmunjom shooting plot' and 'Tax Administration Agency's illegal fund raising' during the presidential election last year have not yet been revealed and we cannot be satisfied with such meager results, therefore I strongly request that prosecutors clarify what the truth is.'
Kim had lunch with national chief prosecutors at the Blue House(Ching Wa Dae) and said, 'These two incidents, which the opposition Grand National Party is insisting they did not know anything about, turned out to be an intentional ploy to manipulate the election by the GNP, directly or indirectly, so the opposition side should now take the legal and moral responsibility.'
It is very noteworthy that the president asserted so strongly his desire to further investigate these two plots.
Kim stressed, 'The whole national tax system was marred due to the diversion of funds and the shooting incident plot has angered all citizens and compromised national defense.'
He directed four major items to be rooted out: officials' corruption, violation of human rights, labor-management feuds, and power groups' default.
