Only 8 of 302 U.S. Military Criminals Judged by Korean Authorities

Only eight out of the 302 U.S. military criminals have been judged or investigated by Korean authorities from January to July this year. The Ministry of Justice (MOJ) revealed their figures to the National Assembly's audit of government operations on November 9. 302 U.S. soldiers stationed in Korea have committed 273 crimes on Korean soil and Korean authorities have ruled on six cases involving eight soldiers.
Among the eight, six were prosecuted at the Korean court and two are being investigated by the Korean police. According to the Korea-U.S. Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA), U.S. soldiers, civilian employees, their family members under the age of 20 or those dependants over the age of 20 who receive over half of their livelihood from the soldier, are to be investigated by the U.S. authorities. However, if Korean authorities require the U.S. to hand over the suspect, U.S. authorities are to consider it 'sympathetically'.
