Robert Kim"s Sacrifice Stirs Supporters

'I was so impressed by his deep patriotism.'
'I feel sad for him because he has cried many tears in the corner of his jail cell. Let's chip in some money as compensation for his loyalty and nationalism.'
Sympathetic E-mails are circulating for the naive patriot.
Korean-American Robert Kim(Kim Chae Gon in Korean), who was charged with espionage for delivering classified U.S. military documents to the Korean government, was sentenced last year to 9 years in prison by a U.S. Federal Court.
Kim's 'patriotism' and personal sacrifice is now a 'cause celebre' on various computer networks such as Hitel and Cholian which everyday receive a lot of e-mails asking for his early release.
These civil activists who demand Kim's immediate release will be gathered next week when U.S. President Bill Clinton visits Korea on November 20.
They will hold a demonstration to publicize Kim's plight and his patriotism.
Kim was a civilian employee in the U.S. defense industry who faxed documents which his lawyers and supporters claim were not classified state secrets but information already known by the Korean government.
In light of this, and especially since the documents were related to the security of the Korean peninsula, they feel his sentence was far too harsh.
