Highway Traffic Decreased
The traffic volume on the nation's superhighways and highways has decreased sharply. The Traffic Development Institute (TDI) announced on November 15 that the number of vehicles using expressways and highways has dropped by 15.4% and 11.5%, respectively, from January to September compared to that of the same period in 1997.The number of people killed in traffic accidents also fell by 23.5%. The number of auto sales decreased by 59.4% whereas that of small model cars increased by 20.9%. Gasoline and diesel prices rose by 36.1% and 64.7%, respectively, and the consumption of them dropped by 24.7% and 21.5%, respectively.
