Govt to Use Only Official Spokespersons for Foreign Media

The government intends to use only designated spokespersons who will exclusively deal with foreign media in order to more accurately and consistently handle public relations regarding the current situation of Korea.
The Fair Trade Commission (FTC) nominated Song Chul Bok, a former journalist at Kyung Hyang Shinmun and the now defunct JoongAng Economic Daily which was a former sister newspaper of the JoongAng Ilbo, as its spokesman for foreign media on November 11.
Earlier, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy decided on Lee Yeun Hyung, also a former journalist, as its spokesman for foreign media last month.
The Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC) chose Park Jeong Mi and the Planning and Budget Commission (PBC) picked Kim Jong Myun, who holds Ph.D in economics from Chicaco Univ..
The Ministry of Labor decided on Lee Jong Tak who formerly was a researcher at the Labor Education Institute.
The Ministry of Finance and Economy will announce its spokesman for foreign media soon.
A source at the government said, ' Spokespersons will be hired on a two year contract. The government expects that public relations toward foreign media will be greatly improved, with the nomination of the spokesmen.'
