FTC to Receive Greater Investigation Power

The Fair Trade Commission(FTC) will be much more stronger with the added power to investigate financial dealings of companies.
The Blue House(Chong Wa Dae) on Nonember 16 recognized the need of checking big business groups and granted a temporary right of qualification to the FTC.
Chun Yoon Chul, the head of the FTC, commented, 'To monitor illegal inside-trading between Chaebols, we need the right to investigate the financial sector, indefinitely.'
This opinion, however, was not backed by prosecutors and the Ministry of Justice, so it is not 100% sure whether the proposition will be introduced or not.
The FTC will limit the range of its investigation among the 30 biggest companies to include only incidents in which chaebols try to evade reducing their business activities.
Nevertheless, concerns over privacy, no matter what mechanisms are implemented to prevent abuses, are a serious concern.
Some political groups are also against the introduction of the law saying it can encroach or violate the current constitution.
