Real Income Decreased by 20% in the Third Quarter

The real income of workers (excluding farmers) decreased by 20% from the same period last year in the third quarter of (July to September) this year.
Real consumption also decreased sharply by 22.3% compared to that of last year for the same period.
These figures were obtained from a report released on November 20 by the National Statistical Office.
During the third quarter, real income per month averaged 1.76 million won while real consumption was 1.049 million won.
Meanwhile, the phenomenon that the rich get richer and the poor get poorer has deepened.
Real income (average per month income of 4.132 million won) of those who belong to the upper 20% decreased just by 8%.
Whereas, the real income (756,000 won per month) of those who belong to the lower 20% decreased by as much 24.4%).
