U.S. to Lift Anti-Dumping Measures on Korean Made TVs

The U.S. has lifted the 15-year anti-dumping measures imposed on Korean made TVs. The U.S. Commerce Department announced on November 24 that it will lift the measures on January 1, 2000.
The U.S. imposed anti-dumping measures, primarily tariffs, last 1984. The U.S. did not lift tariffs even when Korean companies limited their exports to the U.S. and lowered prices because U.S. companies strongly opposed any attempts to lift restrictions during review sessions held every five years.
At this year's examination, American companies did not participate or lobby so the U.S. government lifted it.
After the tariffs are lifted, exports of products with high value added including HD-TV and projection TVs as well as normal color TVs are expected to increase. The demand for high definition televisions(HD-TV) is predicted to rise stemming from the launching of digital TV broadcasting in 40 major cities of the U.S.
