Series of Successes in Developing 256 Mega DRAM

Korean semi-conductor producers are expected to enjoy competitive power after 2000 by the development of a 256 mega DRAM.
Samsung Electronics succeeded in developing a 256 mega DRAM sample last April and Hyundai and LG announced on November 24 that they, too, developed the product.
As of now, the number of companies which have developed this product is five including three Korean makers and Japan's Hitachi and Mitsubishi.
This product has four times the capacity of existing 64 mega DRAM and can contain 2,000 newspaper size pages of information. This memory capacity is used in large and medium size computers and work stations. The market scale is expected to grow 500 million dollars in 1999, three billion dollars in 2000, and 9.4 billion dollars in 2001. The three Korean makers plan to begin mass production next year.
