Stronger Punishment for Corrupt Civil Servants

The government fortified stronger punishment to fight against corruption. The government announced new measures on November 25.
According to the new measures, if a civil servant is involved in any form of corruption, his or her supervisor and possibly his colleagues will also be punished.
Civilians can require an audit and inspection of the government in certain cases, such as when more than 50 people request it. Civilians can also observe the inspection's proceedings.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) plans to stengthen the institution of civilian observation next year.
The Ministry of Construction and Traffic (MOCT) will computerize the whole procedure of construction projects and bidding and open it to the public. In regards to this, President Kim Dae Jung said, 'Civil servants involved in corruption are engaging in an unforgivable activity particularly when the whole nation is suffering from economic pains.'
