Korea #2 Destination for Japanese Tourists
Like Korea, Japan has seen a decline in citizens traveling abroad due to the current economic crisis. However, amidst long-term economic stagnation, Japanese tourists visiting Korea keep increasing.
According to the Korea Tourism Authority, on November 29, Japanese tourists traveling to the United States from January to July this year topped 2.9 million, 4.7% less than that of the year before.
Korea was the second most popular country to visit for the Japanese with 1.04 million tourists, 16.7% up from 1997. This is because the Japanese yen is still comparably strong to the Korean won and the Korean government is actively promoting tourism while rival southeast Asian countries are experiencing political uneasiness right now.
Japanese's third popular nation to call on was China(520,000) followed by Australia(420,000), Thailand, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Italy, and the United Kingdom.
