"Panmunjom Shooting Plot" Trial Begins

The first trial on the 'Panmunjom shooting plot' incident started at the Seoul district court on November 30.
Through the first interrogation, it became clear that Han Sung Ki, who led the plot in an effort to elect Lee Hoi Chang of the Grand National Party (GNP) during the presidential election campaign last year, reported that his scheme was formed in Beijing, China and that Lee was told of the plot, not in person but in two letters.
Furthermore, while Han was in Beijing he placed eight international calls to Lee Hoi Sung, Lee's younger brother.
According to the prosecutors, Han delivered reports on the plan to Lee Hoi Chang's secretary in Pusan on December 9, 1997. Han also sent personal letters to Lee Hoi Chang's chauffer in which he wrote 'North Koreans originally from Hwanghae province also want you to win. I'll inform you later on this.'
Prosecutors confistigated all of Han's computor files as evidence and showed them to the court's judges.
