Investigation into Officer Kim"s Death Reopened

Military prosecutors announced on December 9 that they will reopen their investigation on the disputed suicide by first lieutenant Kim Hoon. (photo right)
Kim, a career officer and the son of an ex-three-star general Kim Chuck, photo left, was ruled by an earlier investigation to have killed himself. The hasty ruling on the cause of death did not clear up suspisions of foul play as there seemed to be no suitable reasons for Kim to take his life.
His body was found earlier this year in the truce village of Panmunjom which is an area controlled by both North and South Korea. New revelations have emerged that secret contacts between South and North Korean soldiers had occurred and that Kim, himself, was conducting his own investigation into the matter. Kim's family has always felt that his death might have been the result of his investigation and knowledge of traitorous activities.
Chun Yong Taek, minister of National Defense, ordered the case reopened, since there is a possibility that Kim was actually engaged in a courageous effort to reveal disloyal collaboration with the enemy.
