Lee Hoi Sung Arrested

The Central Investigation Department (CID) of the Public Prosecution Administration revealed on December 13 that Lee Hoi Sung, photo, the younger brother of Lee Hoi Chang, the president of the opposition Grand National Party (GNP), was arrested on suspicion of illegally raising funds for his brother's failed 1997 presidential election.
The CID plans to investigate allegations that Lee disclosed to Han Sung Ki, a suspect in the 'Panmunjom Shooting Plot', that he raised 25 billion won to form a fund for the presidential election.
A source at the CID said, 'Lee said to Han and Jang Jin Ho, the chairman of Jinro Group that he raised 25 billion won.' The CID is also considering investigating Lee Hoi Chang, himself, if it is discovered that he had any involvement in illegal fund raising through the National Tax Administration.
Bae Jae Wook, a former high ranking official at Chung Wa Dae, will also be investigated concerning his involvement in this case. He was already arrested on bribery charges in an unrelated case.
