National Assembly Frozen

Dec 14,1998
The temperature at the National Assembly has plummetted, recently, due to a motion proposed by the opposition Grand National Party (GNP) to oust National Defense Minister Chun Yong Taek from his office.
The motion was stayed automatically because there was an insufficient number of representatives in the Assembly because of the absence of the ruling National Congress for New Politics (NCNP) and the United Liberal Democrats' (ULD) representatives who boycotted the NA.
Lee Hoi Chang, the president of the GNP said, 'The ruling coalition is responsible for this deadlock in the National Assembly.
The motion should not be treated with a rough-and-ready attitude.'
However, leading representatives in the ruling coalition said, 'Motions should be passed during the current National Assembly term.'
Park Hee Tae, the Minority Leader said, 'The National Assembly will not do anything unless Minister Chun resigns. But, we will deliberate bills.'
Chung Dong Yong, the NCNP spokesman said, 'The GNP has brought numerous bills to the National Assembly to divert attention from its current political crisis.'
