President Kim Visits Vietnam

President Kim visited Vietnam and met Tran Duc Luong, the president of Vietnam on December 15.
They agreed to cooperate on social overhead, capital construction and development of information & communications and resources.
Kim proposed that Luong allow Korean companies to participate in 500 million dollars worth of infrastructure construction.
Kim also requested the Vietnamese government grant Korean companies' access to the cellular phone service market as well as oil and gas development.
Kim promised to supply an additional 42.5 million dollars including 28.5 million dollars for the construction of a vaccine factory and another three million dollars of support without conditions in 1999.
In regards to the shared past of the two countries, Kim said, 'In the stream of the cold war, both countries experienced unfortunate losses. Let us overcome the past and make every effort to develop future-oriented relations.' Luon fully agreed with the president's remarks.
