Another NK Infiltration off the South Coast

The Joint Chiefs of Staff announced on December 18 that a North Korean vessel infiltrated the southern sea area and was sunk by South Korean military forces while it tried to escape to the North.
According to the announcement, a strange vessel appeared in the sea off South Cholla province near the city of Yosu and attempted to land on the beach at approximately 11:15 p.m., December 17.
It was, however, detected by Private Kim Tae Wan, who was manning a military observation post. After being detected the vessel tried to flee back to North Korea.
The Korean joint forces of army, navy, air force and marines were alerted and responded by deploying high speed vessels, helicopters and fighters to pursue the small but fast boat.
The North Korean vessel, with a top speed of 35 knots, opened fire on South Korean forces at 5:30 a.m., December 18. South Korean joint forces returned fire and sank the vessel at 5:55 a.m.
The Military and police both dispatched UDT and SSU members to search for the dead bodies 200 meters below. The body of one man was dragged up to the surface still clutching a hand grenade.
The North Korean vessel was a high-speed infiltration boat that was capable of partially submerging as it approached shore in order to escape detection. It weighed 10 tons and was believed to carry at least four agents on board.
Korean soldiers suffered no casualities.
The Military issued a 'Jindo Dog 1' or highest alert warning, around the cities of Yosu and Sunchon and are thoroughly combing these areas for any possible NK agents.
