Gov"t to Ban "700" Telephone Service Next Year
The government will ban the '700' telephone service, so-called 'phoneting', which arranges dates between men and women customers.The Ministry of Information and Telecommunication announced on December 20 that it will discontinue issuing new licences for the telephone service beginning January 1, 1999. The government and the public view the services as increasingly harmful; 'phoneting' arranges unsound meetings that have a negative influence on society.
The Ministry will completely ban the service on July 1, 1999 which means businesses now operating the service will have to close shops at that date.
