Police Forcibly Expel Monks from Chogye Temple

Riot police in a dawn raid of Chogye Temple forcibly evicted monks who have occupied the Buddhist temple illegally for the past 40 days, on December 23.
Monks belonging to the faction named 'Cheongwha Reform' have been occupying the temple to protest against the order's current executives whom they feel are unworthy of their positions.
The current administrators of the temple countered by filing a court petition. The court ruled that the opposition monks were acting illegally and should be dismissed from the temple.
During the raid more than 20 riot squad members and monks were injured. The monks fiercly resisted the assault by throwing Molotov cocktails and other objects to no avail.
