"Semicon Godfather" Retires

Korea's so-called 'Semiconductor Godfather' Kim Kwang Ho(58, Samsung) officially announced his retirement on December 27 in accordance with Samsung's current personnel change.
He cited health conditions and giving younger successors a chance to move up as the main reasons he stepped aside.
Kim entered Samsung 35 years ago and has one-sidedly followed the semi-conductor business.
He alone agreed with the late Samsung chairman Lee Byung Chul's suggestion in 1981 to enter the semicon industry in spite of other directors' strong objections. At that time Lee pondered, 'If Kim had not agreed on the new venture business, I myself would have quit the business.'
While building the Suwon and Kihung factories Kim became famous for his walker shoes and motorized-bycicle, as he personally inspected every area of the construction site throughout the day.
Kim's tenacity and sense of purpose led Samsung to develop the 64K DRAm then the 4 Mega DRam narrowing the gap between Korea, Japan and the United States, surpassing them in the end in the memory capacity sector.
Emphasizing cleanliness and efficiency, he has held most of the major positions in the semicon industry.
