Prosecutors Standardize Ethical Principles

Prosecutors' formulated a set of ethical principles for the first time, the Ministry of Justice announced on December 29.
According to the new code, prosecutors should not have any contact with defence lawyers involved in mutual cases.
Moreover, he or she should not take a case in which a friend or relative is associated nor allow such people to influence a case.
The Ministry officially announced this code of conduct which contains 15 sections and will put it in effect on New Year's Day 1999.
Park Sang Chun, the minister of justice, said, 'Prosecutors are supposed to protect the general public while defending their human rights and freedom, yet many people neither fully trust nor believe in the justice system. This is why we created the code of ethics which is part of our ongoing national reform.'
The code is divided into prosecutors' justice, conscientiousness, neutrality, human rights, and morality.
In the event of any violations, penalties will be uniformly imposed by the Ministry.
