Gov"t to Approve Legal Reports by Mail for Income and Inheritance Tax

The government plans to approve the submittance of legal documents and tax forms through the mail related to the assessment and payment of income tax and inheritance tax.
The purported reason is that the government intends to eliminate various forms of corruption related to personal encounters between taxpayers and tax officials.
The Ministry of Finance and Economy (MOFE) announced on January 3 that it is now considering a way by which tax payers can report their taxes via mail, faximile or electronic mail without having to visit tax offices.
Up until now only the value-added tax's self-assessment report filed by merchants and businesses is permissible by mail.
MOFE will formulate and implement the revised plan by next March.
Meanwhile, the government will also make a bill of which contents will legally restrict tax officials from requesting taxpayers to visit tax offices unless under special circumstances.
