New System on Drug-pricing In Effect on Jan. 20
The Ministry of Health and Welfare (MOHW) announced on January 3 that starting January 20 a new system will be in effect that will require pharmacies to set the prices for drugs.Accordingly, the MOHW asked drugmakers and importers not to mark a drug's price they ship from the 20th.
The government will allow the drugs of which the price had already been set by drugmakers and importers only until the end of June 1999.
A source at the MOHW explained, 'The government planned to implement the new system initially on January 1 but, due to consultations with related ministries, the implementation date was delayed.'
