President Kim Presides Over Security Meeting

President Kim Dae Jung on January 4 presided over a national security meeting at the Blue House(Chong Wa Dae) and accented peaceful relations between South and North Korea in the new year.
Kim said to security officials and advisors, 'I myself, especially, will do my very best on resolving the dispersed family problem between South and North Korea this year and it should occur with the momentum of mutual trust and making-up for past differences.'
Regarding the North Korea famine, he added, 'We cannot solve the problem by just feeding them every year. There must be more practical ways such as South-North agricultural development cooperation. The year of 1999 is very significant for us to leap forward and ease the unnecessary tension on the Korean Peninsula. Even the North Korean nuclear problem must be solved through peaceful means and constructive dialogue.'
Kim also affirmed that he will draw on international support and understanding to dismantle the cold war structure built in and around Korea which has propped up Korea for more than 50 years since the Korean War while at the same time elevating diplomacy.
