"Housebuilding of Love" Needed More in Recession

'I clearly recall the time I spent without a house. I still can't believe I have one now.'
Hyun Jong Moon, a 44-year-old father of two, lives in Uijongbu City, Kyonggi Province. The family used to live in a rental apartment which was freezing in winter and rain-soaked in summer.
He was fired from his job as a construction machinery operator when the IMF bailout and subsequent recession took a particularly heavy toll on the construction industry. When his job vanished so did his dream of owning his own home.
However, all that changed for the better when 'Housebuilding for Love', a charity group founded in 1995, built him a small and comfortable house in Uijongbu. 'Housebuilding for Love' is the Korean chapter of the non-government organization(NGO), Habitat for Humanity International, which constructs simple houses for those who cannot afford a house of their own.
Beneficiaries only have to pay 80 dollars per month over 15 years without interest charges. This covers the cost of the original construction fee.
The Korean branch has built 23 houses, so far, in metropolitan areas. Habitats for Humanity operates in 60 countries and has built 70,000 houses since its creation.
