A Civil Servant"s Long Road to Professorship

Park Chul Ho graduated from high school in 1980. He could not afford to enter university so he took a low-paying, entry-level job with the Seoul Metropolitan Government. However, he still wanted to pursue getting a higher education.
So, in 1981, he entered Kyunggi University where he attended night classes. He received a bachelor's degree in 1988. Undaunted by his grueling schedule he gained a master's degree in 1991. He had also been moving up through the civil service ranks, albeit not as quickly nor spectacularly. Although he was then working for the education administration department he continued his studies and, finally, got his doctorate in Tourism and Business Administration last August after 17 years of university.
Recently, he applied for a professorship at Anyang University and successfully won the position. He plans to resign his civil-servant position and begin his new career in March.
Park said, 'Whatever I did, I studied for more than an hour before I went to bed. I want to search for ways to improve the tourism administration service on the basis of my experience as a civil servant.'
