Korea to Sign Extradition Treaty With Japan

The Ministry of Justice on January 8 announced that it will sign an agreement with Japan for a criminal extradition pact this year.
A source from the Ministry said, 'Recently the two countries reached a preliminary agreement through practical meetings. A Japanese delegation will visit Korea in March.'
A Korea-U.S. exchange treaty will come into effect early this year.
Criminals who flee to Japan are estimated to number 300-400 people and most of them are related to gang activity or drug dealing.
Korea has already signed extradition treaties with 10 nations such including the U.S., Canada and Australia.
